EchoPilot was founded in 1969 and our first product was a battery operated "flasher" echo sounder. Since then we have made hundreds of thousands of instruments, always specialising in forward looking sonar, depth sounders and speed logs.

We design the whole product ourselves – both instrument and transducer. It is our long experience in transducer design which led to our technical break throughs in forward looking sonar and no paddle wheel ultrasonic logs.

Innovative products include a 3D side scanning sonar for small boats and a wreck finder for divers and fishermen which uses military mine hunting techniques. We also make industrial transducers for river flow measurement.

Virtually every week of the year you will find us on our Nelson test boat (well stocked with sea sickness pills) out in the Western Solent collecting data for new projects or production sea trialling forward looking sonar. We are proud that every FLS we have ever made has been to sea and tested both deep and shallow before delivery to our customers.

We believe that we are unique because we are engineers and yachtsmen first – Research and Development is much larger than marketing in our organisation, and we believe that the best measure of a marine instrument is how well it works on a boat.

Good sailing,

Mike and Susan Phillips.

Fls Technology, how it works...

OTHER SOUNDERS ARE HISTORY! Most vertical depth sounders show a depth which is an average of what is behind the boat. At EchoPilot we believed that most boat owners would prefer to see hazardous obstructions in front of them!!
